Pair of dark-stained beech chairs designed by René Gabriel circa 1943.

Featuring grooved wooden slats on the seat and a backrest with three horizontal bars, these chairs reflect the simplicity and rational design typical of the French postwar reconstruction period. Functional and durable, they embody René Gabriel's vision of democratic design and his contribution to the modernist movement in France during the 1940s.

Provenance: Parisian apartment of designers Ria & Youri Augousti.
