Pierre Chapo

Pierre Chapo (1927 - 1987)

Born in Paris in 1927, Pierre Chapo passion for wood started with the encounter of a marine carpenter at the age of 20. He received his architectural training at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris.

After travelling America and the Nordic countries, Pierre Chapo returned to France and continued to work on wood, in particular ash, elm, oak, associating the quality of craftsmanship and the love of modern design. He opened his gallery in Paris, boulevard de l'Hôpital, and started exhibited other artists, such as Isamo Noguchi.

After opening his furniture factory and inspired by the work of designers of his time, he notably edited a table by Charlotte Perriand for Les Arcs. He was a master wood craftsman as is reflected in his work.
