Ceramicist
Trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs, Mado Jolain established her studio in Montrouge in the 1950s, working closely with her husband René Legrand, who designed the metal bases for their collaborative works, combining structural clarity with expressive freedom.
This pair of side tables is a characteristic example. Each table features a slender black lacquered metal base supporting a removable top composed of glazed stoneware tiles in vibrant yellow tones. The deliberately irregular mosaic composition creates rhythm and surface vibration, a hallmark of Jolain's ceramic language.
Emblematic pieces from Atelier Jolain, where postwar ceramic experimentation meets decorative furniture design.
