Joseph-André Motte

Joseph-André Motte (1925 - 2013)

Joseph-André Motte is a French designer and decorator. He graduated as major of promotion from the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d'art de Paris.

With Pierre Guariche, René Jean Caillette and Pierre Paulin, Motte played a major role in the postwar modernist movement by favoring industrial materials and experimental forms rather than decorative furniture.

He realizes prestigious projects such as the interior decoration and the furnishing of the 2 Parisian airports (Charles de Gaulle and Orly) or the Louvre Museum. Some of his most iconic creations are the tripod chair and the presidential desk. He is a pioneer of post-war modernism, but his work also represents a certain French urban lifestyle.
