Architectural Column from Les Arcs, France, 1973-1976

REF: 8042

Decorative architectural column designed by Charlotte Perriand for the Les Arcs 1800 ski resort residences, Savoie, France, circa 1976-1981.

Crafted from solid pine slats assembled around a structural frame, this architectural element was originally conceived to conceal the building's technical installations, such as ducts, pipes and service shafts. The horizontal rhythm of the slats reflects the warm and functional aesthetic developed by Charlotte Perriand for Les Arcs, where technical constraints were seamlessly integrated into the interior architecture. Thanks to its open construction, the piece can also be easily converted into a striking illuminated element or sculptural feature.

Provenance: Les Arcs 1800.

Bibliography: Charlotte Perriand, Complete Works, Volume 4, Jacques Barsac.
