Pair of solid beech armchairs, France, circa 1950
REF: 7845
Pair of lounge armchairs produced in France circa 1950.
The solid beech structure stands on slightly inclined front legs and subtly flared rear legs, giving the chairs a grounded and low stance. The curved armrests extend forward in a fluid line, supported by a double lateral rail that reinforces the horizontal structure. The backrest widens slightly toward the top and accompanies a deep, generous seat.
The silhouette is balanced and restrained, without unnecessary ornament. The construction remains clearly legible, where the curve of the armrests interacts with the firm geometry of the base. A representative example of French Reconstruction period seating.
